Health Care Associate Health Care Associate – Medical Front Desk Receptionist

Location: Central Fremont, CA 
Pay: $25.00–$27.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Contract
Schedule: Monday–Friday, clinic hours between 8:00 AM–8:00 PM (shifts may include 8:00–5:00, 10:00–7:00, or 11:00–8:00). Evenings and weekends as needed.

AlliedUP Co-op is seeking a Health Care Associate (HCA) to support one of California's leading Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). As the first point of contact for patients, you'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming experience while helping patients access the care they need.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with medical front office experience who enjoys providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

What You'll Do

As a Health Care Associate, you will:

  • Welcome patients and visitors while providing outstanding customer service
  • Check patients in and out and maintain accurate demographic and insurance information
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments using Epic EHR
  • Answer incoming phone calls and route messages to the appropriate care team
  • Assist patients with MyChart enrollment and navigation
  • Verify insurance eligibility, including Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, and other public health programs
  • Explain insurance coverage, sliding fee programs, and available financial assistance
  • Enroll eligible patients into county programs such as EWC, CDP, and FPACT
  • Collect patient payments following established cash handling procedures
  • Monitor EHR message pools and respond within established service standards
  • Communicate effectively with providers and clinical staff to support patient care
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques to assist patients with questions or concerns
  • Protect patient privacy by maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Support clinic operations and patient flow as part of a collaborative care team

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably primary care, community health, or outpatient clinics
  • Experience using Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Experience verifying insurance, including Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, and other public insurance programs
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and accurate data entry
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and Live Scan fingerprinting

Preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Farsi/Dari, or Tagalog
  • Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health clinic
  • Experience with patient enrollment and financial assistance programs

Work Location

This position is based in Central Fremont and could be scheduled to support one of many locations in the area. Candidates must be willing to travel to nearby clinic locations within the service area when additional coverage is needed.
