Community Health Advocate (CHA) – Family Support & Outreach Black Infant Health (Contract-to-Hire)
Pay Rate:
 $26/hour
Location: Oakland, CA (On-Site and Hybrid as schedule permits)
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am-5:00pm but can vary and include weekends based on planned events.

AlliedUP Cooperative is seeking a Community Health Advocate – Family Support & Outreach.  Reporting to the Black Infant Health (BIH) Program Manager – the CHA provides on-site supervision to children ages 1 month to 12 years while parents attend prenatal, postpartum, and other BIH-related group activities. The CHA ensures a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children and supports the overall goals of the Black Infant Health Program. In addition to child watch responsibilities, this role supports participant engagement, family outreach, community resource coordination, and program operations during periods when child watch services are not in session. Outreach activities include staffing BIH clinics and events, supporting participant enrollment and retention, conducting outreach calls to families, connecting participants with community resources and basic needs supports, promoting BIH services through tabling and community engagement activities, and maintaining communication with community partners. The CHA – Family Support & Outreach serves as an ambassador for the program and contributes to improving access to services and resources for BIH families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, clean child watch area
  • Supervise infants and children (ages 1 month–12 years) during program activities
  • Facilitate age-appropriate play and activities
  • Provide emotional and physical support to children
  • Escort toilet-trained children and change diapers as needed
  • Supervise snack time and clean up after sessions
  • Attend and actively participate in trainings and care coordination meetings. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with Black Infant Health Program events for BIH participants.
  • Provides staffing support for BIH clinics, workshops, orientations, and community events.
  • Conducts outreach to BIH participants and families to assess needs, provide program information, and support ongoing engagement.
  • Assists participants with enrollment, referrals, and connections to community resources, including health, social service, and basic needs programs.
  • Provides information regarding available supplies, services, and program benefits to eligible families.
  • Participates in community outreach and tabling activities to promote BIH services and increase awareness of program resources.
  • Conducts routine follow-up and verification calls with community providers, referral partners, and participating families, as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate outreach and participant contact records in accordance with program policies and confidentiality requirements.
  • Supports care coordination activities and collaborates with BIH staff to identify and address participant needs.
  • Performs other outreach, engagement, and program support duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Six (6) units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development (grade “C” or better), or
    • Four (4) months of ROP Child Development training
  • Experience: At least one (1) year working as a childcare aide, teacher aide, or similar role
  • Certifications:
    • Infant & Pediatric CPR/First Aid (within 30 days of assignment)
    • Ability to pass background check
    • Negative TB test upon hire (maintained every four years)
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and perform childcare-related physical tasks
