Behavioral Health SUD Clinician 

Organization: FQHC Community Health

Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $67,000-$77,000 commensurate with experience.


Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) Clinician provides assessment, counseling, treatment planning, and care coordination for patients with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

This is a team-based, integrated role working across behavioral health, mental health, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services. Clinicians carry an active caseload and are responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant care under Drug Medi-Cal standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct SUD screenings, assessments, and level-of-care determinations
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling (relapse prevention, harm reduction, coping skills)
  • Support MAT services and coordinate care for opioid, alcohol, and polysubstance use
  • Diagnose co-occurring disorders and complete mental status evaluations
  • Manage a caseload of ~40–60 patients with individualized treatment plans
  • Monitor progress, conduct outreach, and adjust care plans as needed
  • Coordinate care across behavioral health, primary care, and community resources
  • Document services in Epic in a timely and compliant manner
  • Provide crisis intervention and support urgent care needs as appropriate

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, MFT, Psychology, or related field
    (Bachelor’s accepted with qualifying SUD certification and experience)
  • Current DHCS-recognized SUD counselor certification (required)
  • Active or eligible registration (ASW, AMFT, APCC, or Psychological Associate) within 6 months
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment
  • Experience with MAT populations (opioid, alcohol, polysubstance use)
  • Experience with Epic EHR system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in FQHC or integrated care settings
  • Advanced MAT experience (methadone, buprenorphine, AUD treatment)
  • Familiarity with Alameda County behavioral health systems
  • Bilingual Spanish 

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of SUD treatment models (harm reduction, relapse prevention, stages of change)
  • Experience with DSM-5 diagnosis and co-occurring disorders
  • Strong treatment planning and caseload management skills
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams

  • Ability to travel between clinic sites
  • Reliable attendance and professionalism required
  • Ability to work with high-acuity populations, including patients experiencing active substance use, mental health crises, or housing instability
