Medical Front Desk Receptionist Part-Time – Contract to Hire
Location: San Jose, CA (Santa Clara Valley Medical Center & Regional Medical Center areas)
Pay Rate: $23/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
Note: Thursday evenings required once monthly (10:00 AM–7:00 PM)

Position Overview
The Medical Front Desk Receptionist plays a vital role in ensuring a positive first impression for all patients and visitors. This full-time, contract-to-hire role involves providing front-line administrative support, greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and helping maintain efficient clinic operations. You'll be part of a collaborative care team dedicated to improving the health of your community.
Key Responsibilities

Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner

Answer and route incoming calls, take messages, and provide general information

Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments using EPIC EHR

Verify insurance eligibility and update patient demographic information

Monitor hold times and provide timely service to callers

Collect patient co-pays and process payments according to clinic policy

Resolve patient inquiries regarding appointments, insurance, and account concerns

Communicate updates and concerns to supervisors regarding patient access and operations

Support other administrative duties and projects as needed
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

1+ year of experience in a healthcare or front desk environment

Experience with EPIC EHR system (required)

Strong customer service and communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy

Experience verifying Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, or other public health plans is a plus

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Language & Interpersonal Skills

Fluent in English (verbal and written)

Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Tagalog highly desired

Credentialing Requirements

Must pass a criminal background check, including Live Scan fingerprinting
