Pay Rate: $27/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for a contract-to-hire role supporting one or both of the organization’s outpatient primary care clinics in San Jose. As a CMA, you’ll work closely with providers and clinical staff to support patient care, ensure smooth clinic operations, and provide an exceptional experience for patients and community members.

This is a part-time, patient-facing role ideal for a CMA who thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented, and service-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Support

  • Prepare patients for exams: take vital signs, review medical history, collect specimens, and assist providers during procedures.

  • Administer injections and perform ECGs, venipuncture, and other procedures within your scope of training.

  • Provide post-visit education and instructions to patients.

  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, restock supplies, and follow infection control protocols.

  • Support population health efforts, including patient outreach and closing care gaps in coordination with the Quality Improvement team.

Administrative Duties

  • Handle front office tasks as needed: registration, insurance verification, check-in/out.

  • Assist with scheduling, appointment reminders, and responding to patient inquiries.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR).

  • Process medication refill requests and prepare documentation for provider review.

  • Support immunization records, registry data entry, and chart preparation prior to visits.

Team Engagement

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and workflow improvement projects.

  • Communicate effectively with providers, supervisors, and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Ensure a welcoming and respectful environment for patients of all backgrounds.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, or CCBMA).

  • 2+ years of experience in a primary care or outpatient setting.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and standard vital signs.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using EHR systems (EPIC experience preferred).

  • Reliable attendance and excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, or Cantonese (not required, but a plus).

  • Experience working in community-based or FQHC environments.


Health & Safety Requirements

  • Proof of MMR (2 doses or titers), Varicella, and Hepatitis B vaccinations (no waiver for Hep B).

  • TB test within the past year.

  • Compliance with organizational infection control policies.
