We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Contract to Hire Nursing Supervisor to join a long-standing community health organization serving Oakland’s most vulnerable populations. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Patient Care Services, including staffing, quality assurance, and compliance. This role ensures that clinical and clerical staff deliver high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care that reflects the values of community health.
Working closely with the Nursing Manager and leadership team, the Nursing Supervisor provides staff oversight, training, scheduling, and performance management to maintain smooth clinic operations. In addition, the Supervisor helps foster a culture of equity, cultural competence, and preventative care that supports the unique needs of the community we serve.
Location: West Oakland Clinic + occasional support at East Oakland
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Hourly Pay Rate: $65 per hour
Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Saturdays 8:00-1:00 as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Nursing, or a health-related field OR
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-time supervisory experience in a primary care or community health setting
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, ambulatory care, and community-based healthcare practices
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams with professionalism, patience, and clear communication
- Familiarity with healthcare operations, compliance standards, and best practices
- Knowledge of population health principles and community health priorities preferred
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills to effectively plan, prioritize, and resolve issues
Staff Supervision & Development
- Oversee daily activities of clinical and clerical staff to ensure efficient, high-quality care
- Recruit, interview, and recommend new hires
- Train, coach, and evaluate staff performance, ensuring competency and professional growth
- Manage staff schedules, including vacation and sick leave, while maintaining coverage
- Lead department meetings and ensure clear communication across teams
- Address performance issues, complaints, and disciplinary actions in coordination with the Nursing Manager
- Supervise students and interns during externships
- Monitor clerical documentation, patient records, and information flow
- Act as liaison between staff and leadership, providing updates and reports
Regulatory Compliance, Quality, & Community Health
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, patient rights, ethics, confidentiality, infection control, and safety standards
- Support Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to advance patient outcomes and community health goals
- Promote culturally responsive care and equitable access to services
- Engage staff in preventative health initiatives and community outreach efforts
- Monitor proper handling/disposal of hazardous materials and adherence to emergency preparedness guidelines
- Provide equitable, community-focused, patient-centered care
Communication & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to the Nursing Manager on staff performance and clinic operations
- Document and report staffing issues, compliance findings, and patient concerns promptly
- Promote open communication between staff and leadership to address challenges and improvements
- Advocate for staff and patients, ensuring alignment with the community health mission
