We are seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Patient Service Representative for a Contract to Hire role at a mission-driven community health clinic. The centered Patient Service Representative plays a vital role in ensuring a positive first impression for all patients and visitors. This full-time, contract-to-hire role involves providing front-line administrative support, greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and helping maintain efficient clinic operations.
Location: West Oakland Clinic + occasional support at East Oakland
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Hourly Pay Rate: $23 per hour
Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Saturdays 8:00am to 1:00pm as needed.
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner
- Answer and route incoming calls, take messages, and provide general information
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments using EPIC EHR
- Verify insurance eligibility and update patient demographic information
- Monitor hold times and provide timely service to callers
- Collect patient co-pays and process payments according to clinic policy
- Enroll eligible patients into free or low-cost sliding fee discount coverage for medical, dental, or optometry services
- Resolve patient inquiries regarding appointments, insurance, and account concerns
- Communicate updates and concerns to supervisors regarding patient access and operations
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 1+ year of experience in a healthcare or front desk environment
- Experience with EPIC EHR system (required)
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy
- Experience verifying Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, or other public health plans is a plus
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Language & Interpersonal Skills
- Fluent in English (verbal and written)
- Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Tagalog highly desired
- Culturally responsive and able to work with diverse populations
Credentialing Requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check
Experience and Credentials:
- High school diploma or equivalent

- Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional and experiential backgrounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
