Certified Medical Assistant – Contract to Hire

Location: San Jose, CA (serving Santa Clara Valley Medical Center area and Regional Medical Center area)
Pay Rate: $27 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Thursday evenings from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM (once a month or as needed)
Position Type: Contract to Hire (potential for permanent placement based on performance)


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant with at least 2 years of primary care clinical experience to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. You will work closely with providers and the primary care team to ensure smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and excellent customer service in outpatient clinics within San Jose.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties: Take vital signs, perform patient intakes, prepare patients for exams, and assist providers during examinations. Conduct procedures within your scope of training, including patient history collection, ECGs, specimen collection, venipuncture, injections, and chart documentation. Maintain sterile techniques and manage supplies efficiently.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete patient registration, verify insurance, check-in/check-out patients, and assist with appointment scheduling and confirmations. Prepare charts and documentation for provider review, process medication refills based on provider orders, and support patient outreach initiatives.
  • Patient Support & Education: Provide clear instructions and health education to patients, answer minor patient inquiries, and communicate concerns to the healthcare team. Assist with maintaining and updating immunization records and health registries.
  • Team Collaboration & Quality Improvement: Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement projects to help identify and close gaps in patient care.
  • Additional Duties: Support front desk and clinical operations as needed, including answering phones, assisting staff, and completing other assigned projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification: Valid and current State or National certification as a Medical Assistant (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, or CCBMA) required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a primary care outpatient setting required.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of clinical terminology and vital sign ranges.
    • Proficiency in medical practice management systems.
    • Experience with EPIC EHR Required.
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
    • Bilingual abilities (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese) are a plus.
