Public Health Nurse – Black Maternal & Infant Health Contract-to-Hire.
AlliedUP is hiring a Public Health Nurse who is deeply committed to improving Black maternal and infant health outcomes in Oakland. This role is ideal for a nurse who understands Oakland’s Black communities, values relationship-based care, and believes health equity requires cultural humility, trust, and community partnership.
About the Role
The Public Health Nurse works directly with Black pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families in Oakland to improve maternal and infant health outcomes. This role provides culturally affirming prenatal, postpartum, and infant health education; conducts home and community visits; and helps families navigate healthcare and social support systems. The nurse builds trusted relationships within Oakland’s Black communities, collaborates with local providers and community organizations, and addresses the social and structural factors that contribute to disparities in birth outcomes. This position is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about health equity, community-centered care, and supporting healthier futures for Black families.

Hourly Pay: $76 Per Hour
What You’ll Do

Conduct home and community visits with Black pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families to support healthy pregnancies and infant development
- Provide prenatal, postpartum, and infant health education using a trauma-informed, life-course approach
- Conduct home and community-based visits, including screenings (e.g., postpartum depression, home safety)
- Provide culturally responsive prenatal, postpartum, and infant health education, including topics such as breastfeeding, infant safe sleep, maternal health warning signs, and stress reduction
- Assist with participant intake and enrollment and support families throughout their program participatio
- Coordinate care with healthcare providers and help families access prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric care including community hospitals, clinics, doulas, midwives, and community organizations
- Connect participants to Medi-Cal, community resources, and social services that support family wellbeing
- Support and participate in group sessions by providing clinical guidance and answering health-related questions
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team through case conferences and community outreach efforts
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with privacy and confidentiality standards
- Build trusting relationships with Black families through culturally affirming, strength-based care
Requirements
- BSN from an accredited institution
- Active California RN license required
- California State Public Health Nurse Certification
- At least 1 year of community-based experience in maternal, infant, or child health
- Demonstrated understanding of Oakland’s Black community, including the impacts of structural racism, displacement, and racialized stress
- Comfort working both independently in the community and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain health information clearly
- Ability to navigate and connect families to healthcare systems, social services, and community resources
- Organized and detail-oriented with strong documentation and follow-up skills
- Commitment to health equity, cultural humility, and trauma-informed care
