Bilingual Spanish Medical Front Desk Receptionist (Contract-to-Hire)

We are seeking a dedicated Bilingual Spanish Medical Front Desk Receptionist to join a mission-driven health clinic dedicated to serving underserved populations. Position Overview:
As a Bilingual Spanish Medical Front Desk Receptionist, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, embodying warmth and professionalism. Your role involves managing appointment scheduling, verifying insurance, handling patient inquiries, and supporting daily clinic operations to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all.

Location:
  • West Oakland Clinic, with occasional support at East Oakland Clinic
Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM (as needed)

Compensation:
  • $23.50 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients and visitors warmly, creating a positive first impression
  • Answer and route incoming calls, take messages, and provide general information in both English and Spanish
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments accurately using the EPIC EHR system
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and update demographic details in the system
  • Collect co-pays and process payments following clinic policies
  • Assist eligible patients with enrollment in free or low-cost sliding fee programs for medical, dental, and optometry services
  • Address patient questions and concerns regarding appointments, insurance, and billing with empathy and professionalism
  • Monitor patient wait times and ensure efficient service delivery
  • Communicate operational updates or concerns to supervisors
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times

Qualifications & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (verbal and written)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare front desk or customer service roles
  • Proficiency with the EPIC EHR system (required)
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology in both languages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills
  • Experience verifying Medicaid, Medi-Cal, CalWORKs, or other public health insurance plans is a plus
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality

Credentialing & Compliance:
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Culturally responsive, with ability to relate effectively to diverse populations
