Billing and Coding Manager (Contract-to-Hire) — Oakland, CA
Are you an experienced billing and coding professional with a strong focus on managing revenue cycles and ensuring accurate healthcare reimbursements? AlliedUP Cooperative is seeking a dedicated Billing and Coding Manager to oversee and optimize our client’s clinical revenue cycle. This vital role emphasizes process oversight, compliance, and collaboration with providers to maximize billing accuracy and reimbursement— all within FQHC guidelines. Position Type: Contract-to-Hire
Location: Oakland, CA (In Person)
Pay Rate: $43.00 per hour


Qualifications & Skills:
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management, ideally within an FQHC or outpatient setting.
  • Strong knowledge of FQHC billing practices, Medicaid PPS, Medicare FQHC regulations, and managed care contracts.
  • Proven ability to improve revenue cycle efficiency and reimbursement outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Epic and Athena Electronic Health Record (EHR) required.
  • Billing Operations Know-How:
  • Experience with Charge Router and claim edit work queues on a daily basis.
  • Ability to run reconciliations, detail denial reasons, and utilize reports for claims audits.
  • Skilled in tracing leakage points within billing workflows and fixing Epic/Athena configuration or workflow issues in real time.
  • Knowledge of building and analyzing workflows and KPIs from scratch, such as clean claim rate, first pass yield, and denial rate, to partner effectively with providers without overburdening them.
  • Commitment to healthcare equity and access. Key Responsibilities:
    Revenue Cycle Management:
    • Lead end-to-end billing processes, including accurate charge capture, coding, timely claims submission, denial management, and collections.
    • Monitor key performance metrics such as days in Accounts Receivable, denial rates, collection efficiency, and chart closure times to identify and implement improvements.
    Claims Review & Compliance:
    • Review provider charge entries for accuracy, ensuring proper use of modifiers, diagnoses, and procedures.
    • Ensure all billing activities comply with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations, including FQHC reimbursement policies, Medicaid PPS, and Medicare FQHC guidelines.
    Payer & Client Collaboration:
    • Maintain strong relationships with payers, promptly address claim issues, and support contract negotiations when necessary.
    • Collaborate with providers to improve documentation and coding practices that enhance revenue capture.
    Data Analysis & Reporting:
    • Generate comprehensive reports on visit volumes, payer mix, coding trends, and revenue metrics for leadership review.
    • Use data insights to recommend workflow enhancements, identify revenue opportunities, and aid in continuous process improvement.
    Financial & Strategic Support:
    • Partner with financial leadership, including the CFO and Controller, to support budget development, financial forecasting, and strategic planning related to clinical revenue.
